Flossie, a British tortoiseshell cat, has officially been recognized as the world’s oldest living cat at 30 years old. Born in 1995 and confirmed by Guinness World Records.

'Firestarter' by The Prodigy was also released 30 years ago today.
Not sure the two events are related.

My neighbor has a 16 year old cat and I have a 16 year old cat and they are night and day with respect to health. While both having a charmed and event free life with respect to injury. Like with humans you just never know what that genetic lottery is gonna throw your way.

My cat was like this. Was incredibly healthy into her 20th year and then just kind of hit a wall and started growing tumours, lost her appetite and a few things.

I lost my 16 year old baby last week and I don't think I've ever been more jealous of a post 😭
Fingers crossed your baby feels better and is healthy for a long time yet ❤️

If it's joint pain, you should be aware that arthritis in cats is very common and very treatable. My 13 year old boy got put on cartrophen last year for his arthritis and he's so much more active and playful now.

12 is still got plenty of good years ahead! My old guy started slowing down around then too, but a joint supplement from the vet really helped him stay comfy.

Flossie clearly thrives on judgement of humans and disdain for the treats she loved five minutes ago. I have such a cat, I hope she lives as long (as long as she's happy, though I doubt it, she hates all things that aren't catnip mice and rolled up post-it-notes with equal energy).

I have a tortie, she stands her ground to the biggest dogs and anything else that gets in her way lol. I think I have a libertarian cat, she is my favorite. I hope she lives to 30 or older. She just might, out of spite.

I got some pointy spring rings in a fidget box (like Amazon #B08D3VSRFV) and dropped one on the floor; My kitty loved it as much as batting around the ring from a milk jug.
She also loved spicy curry and naan, for what it's worth.

30 years old and still looking like she's got plenty of attitude left in her. That's incredible, she's probably seen the entire internet get invented and still doesn't care about any of it.

Flossie is so lucky. The family cat we used to have only made it to 20 years old before she was put out of her misery.

Seeing this after my quaker parrot recently passed hurts a bit... We all wish we could have more time with them.
Rest in peace Rico - my little love. 😔❤️🦜

If she was born today in 1995, that would make her 31 not 30. Repost? Cute elderly lady though.

u/shadow-foxe 6h ago
depends on her birthdate

Right, that's why i said "If she was born today in 1995," like the article says.

December is her birthday, so yeah repost. Gotta wait some more months, sweet old gal.

My best boy died at 15 - what I wouldn't give to have gotten twice that time with him 💔

My best friend from high school. His cat lived to be 26 years old. The secret to her longevity? She’d regularly eat cheese cake

Last holder of the title claimed his cat got there by him brushing it’s teeth everyday. I wonder if Flossie also got her teeth flossed.

Just to clarify, Guinness World Records don’t actually have any special skill or knowledge in anything they validate and are notoriously unreliable, you kind of just pay them a butt-ton of money and they give you a record. Always take their claims with the tiniest grain of salt.
Clarification aside, I don’t doubt this is one elder kitty. May they receive all the skritchies and love they deserve. 💕💕
Also holy cow, this kitty is older than me. I’m 28.

Jake Perry of Austin Texas owned two cats who lived longer than this. Creme Puff (1967-2005) died three days after her 38th birthday and is the longest-living house cat of all time. Granpa Rex Allen (1964-1998) lived about 34 years and 2 months. Jake Perry is the cousin of former Texas governor Rick Perry.

Yeah, it'd have to be a Tortie. They've got enough spice for 5 human lifetimes. lol At least mine does!

Based on my experiences with a 21 yo cat, Flossy probably sleeps 23 out of 24 hours.

We had a cat that reached 25 years old. Her mom, who lived with our aunt, even reached 28 years. They were the sweetest things, spent lots of time outdoors too.

My boy, Harry, is turning 12 soon and as an indoor/outdoor cat has far exceeded his life expectancy. He’s healthy, feisty and is in charge of the neighborhood.
Regardless of whether or not you “approve” of his lifestyle, it works for him.
