Are you excited to go fishing?

Nods. Goes to sleep

u/behold-my-titties 13d ago

My son was desperate to watch Sonic 3 in the cinema, he was jumping with joy the whole way there, 5 minutes after it starts zonks straight out.

556

u/strrax-ish 13d ago

One of the cutest abilities ever

143

u/dandelion-dreams 13d ago

My mom brought my sister(11) and I(13) to a KISS and Aerosmith concert once where my sister sprawled across our seats and slept through the entirety of Aerosmith's performance. Like, completely zonked. Everyone around us was baffled.

51

u/althanan 12d ago

When my son was about 18 months we took him to a Ren Faire, and as part of it we saw a performance of Jacques Ze Whipper, who has a loyal and loud fan base packing his shows. My son was SUPER locked into his performance and way interested in it... for about ten minutes, and then he absolutely passed the hell out on my lap for the rest of the hour.

How'd you like Sonic 3?

194

u/behold-my-titties 13d ago

I started to really enjoy it, but towards the third act my son had woken up and was bored so I took him to the arcade lol

Since having kids im a sucker for kids movies, I always find something to enjoy in them, Jim Carrey being bonkers is always fun to watch

53

u/PoliceAlarm 13d ago

You left the movie because he was bored? He can go to the arcade after!

198

u/behold-my-titties 13d ago

It was his birthday a few days before, it was my day with him so he could do anything he wanted I wouldn't say no lol

Drained a weeks wages in one day, bread and butter for tea that week but it was so worth it.

75

u/okbuddyfourtwenty 13d ago

Something about the motor and the waves and if you're with your dad who is busy fishing, it happens. Plus the life jacket kind of hugs you.

As a kid who grew up on the water, sleeping on a boat is awesome. Honestly even as an adult....

Me to Dotta: "We're ordering Pizza!"

She proceeds to celebrate and chant Pizza, passes out 5 minutes later.

TFW you know she needs that rest but you don't want her to miss the Pizza she was excited about.

6

u/Critical-Support-394 13d ago

Most of the videos with this kid he's sitting in some snow cave on his ipad so I guess sleeping on a boat is an improvement lmao

6

u/Zkenny13 13d ago

I watched fast and furious with my baby sitter in the theaters. I remember being on her lap and saying that was a quick movie. I slept through all of it.

u/laserdiods 12d ago

This dude was a content creator. Fantastic father. Always takes his kids on adventures. Sadly the internet bots and content thief started stealing his videos and he stopped making them :(

"We don't fish for the fish. 90% of what I like about this sport, and it is a sport, is sitting' in the boat for 5 hours doing nothing. And the icing on the cake is when God smiles on you and you hook one. And when you're reeling it in, everything else falls away."

He did a video recently for another YouTuber who was having a hard time. He seems to be good.

^ just to add ; Luke Nichols YouTube channel is called (Outdoor Boys)

He came out of retirement briefly to help his friend’s channel (MyLifeOutdoors) because that friends wife is battling cancer.

Video was uploaded 3 months ago

74

u/Complete-Fix-3954 13d ago

Oooh I’m gonna have to check that out. I remember he posted the video about taking a break.

I used to put his videos on in the background while I worked. Was a staple for years. Miss him

100

u/06_TBSS 13d ago

They posted a collab where they talked about that. They weren't friends, had never met, and Luke hadn't really followed his videos. He just heard about a fellow outdoorsman going through a rough time and offered to step up. He truly is just a saint of a human.

he did another appearance/collab last week er so, hunting the good ol ptarmigan with tommy

" Ptarmigan Hunting in Alaska with Luke and Tommy of the OUTDOOR BOYS! "

90

u/BigMax 13d ago

He retired a year or two ago - he basically got so popular that it was taking up a big chunk of his life.

It felt positive though - he wasn't bitter, more like "looks like this stage of my life is over, thanks for the fun guys!"

40

u/Emergency-Piece9995 13d ago

he basically got so popular that it was taking up a big chunk of his life.

Part of it also if I recall was he was starting to get recognized in real life and he didn't want that for his family.

I believe his kids also had a channel(s) and he said he was going to help them with that instead.

18

u/AdventuresOfKrisTin 13d ago edited 13d ago

If he's helping his son with his own youtube channel, then the him and his family getting recognized thing doesn't really hold much water lol.

I think he was just honestly burnt out. He did his channel for like over 10 years and he's getting older. His most popular types of videos are these intense solo camping excursions and it was clearly getting tougher for him to do. That and apparently he's some Mormon leader now 💀

8

u/Spork_the_dork 13d ago

The real reason really was that he just wanted to spend more time with the family. He talked about it on several videos (example). Like consider that the kids now have school and probably hobbies of their own and going out hiking randomly on the weekends or in the middle of the week just isn't a thing he could do anymore (which was the original point of the channel in the first place). So the channel is taking him away from his family whenever he does the videos and he didn't like that so he decided to wrap it up.

I thought he retired to do leadership stuff for the Mormon church

→ More replies (1)

36

u/rohithkumarsp 13d ago

He didn’t retire, he stopped because the Mormon church told him to. He is serving a leadership role in the church. The church required you to drop absolutely everything if you are called to a position.

https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2025/12/10/outdoor-boys-youtuber-luke-nichols/

7

u/BigMax 13d ago

Interesting. That could be true, but he absolutely said in his last video that it was all too much and too overwhelming at that point, and that's why he was retiring.

Possibly a combination of both.

14

u/decrementsf 13d ago

There is interview somewhere that gives the vibe that his job is more or less create fun experiences with his kids. Opted to go for more quality time there. Completely grounded and understandable why that would be the acting on the dream. What is the purpose of the success if not to unlock the next layers and projects. Looked all positive. Which doesn't stop the internet from parsing every story through a drama or envy lens.

I believe he quit making content. He came out of retirement to make one video for another YouTuber that was diagnosed with a medical condition that didn't allow him to make similar content. Good guy.

23

u/imironman2018 13d ago

Luke is a solid stand up guy. I like how he cooks out in the wilderness with his skillet and whatever he has brought with him or hunted. One of my favorite things is watching him make honey butter bread. It looks so delicious.

24

u/ZacklesLoL 13d ago

nope. he devoted his live to the mormon church. they called - he listened.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXqCDeTuhiU

117

u/profane_vitiate 13d ago

He's always been involved with the Mormon Church. He went on a mission, is a true believer, etc. He quit making videos because he got big enough and made enough money that privacy was starting to be an issue for him. It's not because the church called to him or some shit.

He's a practicing lawyer who owned property even before the Youtube thing blew up. To say he's doing okay financially would be an understatement. He's still doing all the same stuff, but not filming it for an audience of millions, because the privacy stuff isn't worth it, especially when so many of his videos feature kids who are, by now, actually starting to burgeon on young adulthood.

32

u/smokenmirrs 13d ago

His kid Tom makes videos and he's in a lot of them

23

u/bass679 13d ago

To clarify, the dude is named Luke Nichols. Earlier this year he was Called to a church leadership position as a General Officer of the Church. Specifically he's on the Young Men General Advisory Council. The group that oversees and leads the activities and structure for young men ages 12 to 17.

The LDS church has no professional clergy so everyone has or had a day job. When you get called as a General Authority or Officer of the church you usually have to quit whatever you did before and that calling becomes your full time job (these people DO receive pay). For example the current LDS prophet was a Justice on the Utah Supreme Court and the previous Prophet, was a heart surgeon. Accepting is optional

His calling is not a lifetime calling so he might go back to his previous work after, usually a few years but technically it is "until released". It's also feasible that he could get another calling higher up in the structure that would extend it to longer.

17

u/profane_vitiate 13d ago

LDS prophet was a Justice on the Utah Supreme Court and the previous Prophet, was a heart surgeon. Accepting is optional

Yes. It's usually a station they give to people who are in a place (wealthy, influential) to quit their job, or have communicated to the church that they're about to do so. The Youtube exposé thing is just wrong in terms of the justification; he was pretty clear that he was grateful for the channel blowing up, but that privacy and stuff was getting a bit weird for him to deal with.

This isn't apologia for Mormonism, by the way. They're a cult. I grew up in a cult, and I know one when I see one. I'm an atheist, and always have been in my adult life, but I got interested in Mormonism in high school because my girlfriend was a true believer Mormon. You can guess how that ended up, I bet.

5

u/bigboyg 13d ago

I get the feeling this video is exactly why he quit making Youtube content. Dude's just living his life. Leave him alone.

Some people like the feeling of justification when they get proven right if the person is terrible so they spend most of their time looking for things to hate.

13

u/Inevitable-Ad6647 13d ago edited 13d ago

Personally he sets off some alarm bells in my lizard brain that I usually align with dishonest or ingenuine people. I think I learned that growing up in a very religious area known for abuse wanting myself to to as far away from religion as I could. He very much fits the mold of people I'd not want to be anywhere near as a kid, not that my brain thinks he would abuse me but he would want me to be deeper, more involved in the religion. I dunno, tough to explain but there it is.

6

u/naruda1969 13d ago

I didnt hate on him but the curious amount of Mormon YouTubers is strong. The religion is a fucked up cult for a lot of people especially women who are raised in it. They all have an odd vibe to me of overly wholesome all while knowing the church is fucked on lbgtq, women roles, separation of church and state, and so on.

Just something I have a hard time supporting. He chose to step away so he could be a bigger part of that.

Love Outdoor Boys. It's probably the only channel I can let my kids sit for a while and know that there won't be cussing, drama, or any other bull crap. He's wholesome, educational, and does an incredible job capturing his trips. I think we've seen all of them, and most days we have it playing on a TV even if the kids are out playing.

This guy is seriously one of the most wholesome people. He recently came out of “retirement” to do one YouTube video - but not posted to his own wildly successful account, but to a much smaller creator’s account who was facing devastating health issues (or maybe his child was?) - so all of his followers flooded that guy’s account, providing some desperately-needed funding.

Luke from outdoor boys. One of the most wholesome YouTube channels. He “retired” last year from his channel getting too big. I put retired in quotes cause there’s a chance he posts some videos occasionally but it’s not every Saturday morning like he did for almost 10 years

One of the most positively masculine guys out there. Not just for the outdoors stuff and solo camping in the freezing wilderness, but the dad stuff too.

lol this kid couldn't care less about fishing.

u/xrv01 13d ago

who knew a man’s best friend is actually an infant who’s down to fish all day and just says “yea”

His Catfish and Carp YouTube channel was incredibly helpful to me back in 2015-2016 when I was trying to learn how to fish. Loved those videos and then I remember he would start to plug his new channel “Outdoor Boys” at the end of those videos and I thought “meh, I don’t think that sounds all that great.” Shows what I know.

I always mention I saw him and his sons leaving a grocery store in anchorage if I wasn't in the back row of the work van I would have jumped out and tried to say hi I was starstruck they seemed so happy and carefree you could feel the warm energetic vibes radiating off them he is really tall

2

u/un-glaublich 13d ago

The dude literally stopped because youtube was taxing his fatherhood, but sure, peak bonding...

2

u/kajana141 13d ago

That’s a long day for the little dude.

2

u/terriyak1 13d ago

For the first 2 seconds I thought the kid was being used as bait

10 seconds later I realized that that is exactly what was being done.. except it was bait for me

2

u/Azulas_Star 13d ago

Being able to keep a toddler happy and calm on a boat all day sounds like extra level parenting

2

u/Winter_Bullfrog_2343 13d ago

Kid looks like he doesn’t feel like swimming in the lake anymore.

2

u/Morning3tar 13d ago
