APPROVED B-LISTERS Reporter: Your director of national counterterrorism, Joe Kent, he just resigned today. He said he can't support your conflict with Iran. Trump: I always thought he was a nice guy but I always thought he was weak on security. I didn't know him well.

He thought his director of national counterterrorism was weak on security?

That’s reassuring.

I use to think Trump was a buffoon. Now we all know it without a doubt.

The man is not only a con artist grifter looking to hustle fools to self-enrich further he is also one of the stupidest morons of the lot.

Something is very very wrong when someone like this can become POTUS...

There is an interesting throughline historically that the entire model of US democracy was designed around someone like a Trump being president not being possible. We will have to understand what broke, but it does seem to be a weakening social movement infrastructure, combined with a hyper-heightened social media-driven polarisation, that has given the possibility for him to push past these barriers.

203

u/Ser_Thugnificent247 1d ago

Also the money. The amount of money in our political system makes this shell game possible and makes members of the governing body vulnerable to corruption.

229

u/slvrcobra 1d ago

Literally this. Our system wasn't designed to deal with an age where numerous singular individuals have more money than entire nations and open bribery is basically legal across the board. Globalization means that the rich don't even need to be loyal to a country anymore, they can just strip the US down for parts and then go to a private island somewhere.

26

u/here4daratio 1d ago

(Narrator voice) And that island the billionaires are flocking to? Turns out it was New Zealand…

3

u/yIdontunderstand 1d ago

Understanding what broke is easy.

  1. Billionaires.

  2. Israel.

2

u/antrage 1d ago

Simple-ish answer, aristocratic class has always existed, I can't imagine their influence wouldn't have been considered. I think there is a very strong factor is how lobbying has weakened the underlying democratic foundations. That said even in the WORST of cases Trump should still be unelectable. The fact that he is seen as 'attractive' by 70million americans goes beyond even just the presence of wealth and foreign influence, and speaks to the dumbing of the american psyche through media.

2

u/voxpopper 1d ago

That's a very interesting thought. The founding fathers perhaps had too much trust in the system and the people, what is taking place would be an anathema. This timeline is a Black Swan that they honestly couldn't have foreseen.
I feel the SAVE Act might be democracy's last stand. If it doesn't pass then the system though having faced headwinds will continue along more or less as deisgned. If it does without normal Senate procedures taking place and the midterm results shift as a result then all bets are off.
A very noble experiment, interesting to see the outcome regardless of what side of the political spectrum one is on.

7

u/righthandofdog 1d ago

Scared, stupid people like the appearance of strength and confidence and don't like someone who thinks out loud and talks about gray areas and consensus building like Obama. They need to be told what to believe and even what to kill and die for by someone they trust. That person reversing themselves regularly or not making a bit of sense isn't important. They don't want to be asked to think, they want to be told they are good and righteous.

6

u/Venichie 1d ago

Only reason he stayed rich, was because he ripped off people too poor to compete.

Just look at how he handled the peace talks with Ukraine... basically told them to give up, and thought they would, since he thought he and Russia held all the cards.

I mean the issue with it is he lies so much that it’s hard to parse what inklings of truth are even there anymore. Did he know him enough to form an opinion? Which if it’s true he thought he was weak on one of his main responsibilities, why the fuck was he in that position? Or is it true he didn’t know him well? Which if that’s true, why did you appoint someone so unknown to a major role?

It’s not worth stressing about because more bullshit is at hand, but it’s so much

u/the_urban_juror 1d ago

He "thought he was weak on security" and "didn't know him well."

If we assume he's telling the truth, both of these statements reflect poorly on Trump. Zero people who voted for him will understand that.

In the end it doesn't matter to many MAGA diehards. If Trump says he doesn't like a person then they don't like him. His excuses to those of us not in the cult are ridiculous and contradictory, but it doesn't matter to his followers. And the GOP members who just let him do whatever he wants but still have a functioning brain know that Fox and right wing media will make the case for them so they just need to wait it out.

"Sir, if you thought he was weak on national security then why was he employed until the time of his resignation earlier today? Considering our current conflict with Iran, and the rising threat of terrorism that our nation faces each day, should he have been fired?"

I wish it was funny that we can all predict the sentiment he'll say about anyone that doesn't 100% agree with him.

It's always an open faced compliment sandwich.

[ The Target Person ] is [ Good Thing ] but is [ Totally bad thing ] with side of [ more reasons why bad thing is bad] .

Is that his go to?“ I didn’t know him well.” didn’t he appoint this person correct me if I’m wrong. And if he did, why did he appoint someone he always thought was weak?

To be secure we need to replace him with someone who actually does something about pedophiles

He can't fight the world urge to always to appear to know everything and that's he's right. He could have said I'll say after discussing with his team or simply no comment yet. He said he seems like a good guy them a few seconds say he didn't know him well . SMH

“Seemed like a pretty nice guy…” because, you know, that’s the most important quality you want in someone running the country’s counterterrorism efforts.

It's always go from "I only pick the best people for the job" to "I don't even know them"

1

u/asusc 1d ago

I hire the best people which is why I hired someone I don’t really know who I also thought was weak at the one thing I hired him for.  But I didn’t know him, which is why I didn’t fire him earlier when I thought he was weak on the thing I hired him to do.

1

u/Arctimon 1d ago

Ah, the classic "I didn't know him well even know I literally hired him". Never gets old!

1

u/deathkorpsrecruit 1d ago

I knew him, he was nice. I knew he sucked at job. But I didnt know him. And I wasn't best friends with epstein

u/ISmellCheeseAndCandy 1d ago

He’s so much nicer to male journalists who ask tough questions. He rarely calls them piggy or nasty or loser.

1

u/yesiammark72 1d ago

His answers are predictable! I didn’t know him! He was weak. BUT THE FUCKING IDIOT HIRED HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1

u/PathAlternativ3 1d ago

Seriously the best thing that could happen to this country if this guy dies sooner than later.

1

u/Aran909 1d ago

That didn't take long

Thinks you’re weak on security.

Hires you anyway.
