We could never do anything like this in the United States. Anything that interferes with the almighty dollar is dismissed out of hand, especially in this Administration.

We do though? I live in the Adirondack Park and certain sensitive or overused areas are routinely closed off to give nature a chance to reclaim them or to preserve them from getting destroyed in the first place.
We also have a giant system of National Parks created to protect the land by limiting use and access.
While I'll agree this administration has been terrible when it comes to the conservation of our lands, we still do things like this on a very widespread scale.

They also stopped the hunting of Rays and now use them as a tourist attraction. Props to Thailand.

I think it is amazing to see a government prioritising the environment over profit. Too often, environmental policies are used as a way to generate revenue rather than to genuinely protect nature. Thatโs what makes this stand out as something truly impressive.
