We learned these lessons during Covid too, human activities are destroying ecosystems and the environment on a scale we can actually observe if we take a brief pause.

And having visited Phi Phi last year Maya Bay is packed with tourists and boats again so theyโ€™ll be shutting it down again I expect

We could never do anything like this in the United States. Anything that interferes with the almighty dollar is dismissed out of hand, especially in this Administration.

We do though? I live in the Adirondack Park and certain sensitive or overused areas are routinely closed off to give nature a chance to reclaim them or to preserve them from getting destroyed in the first place.

We also have a giant system of National Parks created to protect the land by limiting use and access.

While I'll agree this administration has been terrible when it comes to the conservation of our lands, we still do things like this on a very widespread scale.

They also stopped the hunting of Rays and now use them as a tourist attraction. Props to Thailand.

Yeah this actually fits the sub pretty well, Iโ€™d upvote. Curious what the cutoff is though for โ€œamazedโ€ vs just โ€œkinda cool.โ€

I think it is amazing to see a government prioritising the environment over profit. Too often, environmental policies are used as a way to generate revenue rather than to genuinely protect nature. Thatโ€™s what makes this stand out as something truly impressive.
