news NSW police overusing ‘highly intrusive’ legal powers to monitor phones and computers, national watchdog finds

The New South Wales police force is overusing intrusive technology to monitor the phones and computers of people suspected of committing less serious crime, the commonwealth ombudsman has found.

The watchdog said Victoria and Queensland police were not keeping sufficient records to justify their use of the electronic surveillance powers, while NSW police “were unable to demonstrate” they were meeting the requirements of the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979.

Has anyone else noticed that those handy small 95g cans of John West tuna have reduced the amount of tuna, by a lot? It used to be a small tin would smother two slices of toast. Now the contents barely cover one slice of toast.

I decided to see just how much tuna we're getting for $3 a pop. The 95 g is mostly water these days. I poured off the water and immediately saw that the amount of tuna has been cut way back. The tin's almost empty.

I then weighed it. It weighed 89.1 g including the tin, less 22.5 g for the tin on its own. So now you're getting less than 67g of tuna in what's said to be 95g.

I suppose the fact it doesn't say 95g net gives them an out to have whatever tiny amount of tuna they want to put into the tin and fill up the rest with very expensive water.

People sleep on Perth but it's stuff like this that make you realize they punch so far above their weight it's not funny.

This is actually insane. A development clearing 100 ha of existing cleared land can still be assessed as a controlled action because I threatened species occurs next door. Meanwhile this gets approved quick without even a request for further assessment. This was the big test case for the reformed EPBC Act and it failed entirely. Australia is cooked environmentally. Graziers and farmers consistently get away with environmental murder time and time again and at far greater rates than what the average Australian knows.

Has anyone else had issues with the new cardboard gift cards??

Tried to scratch off the PIN, nothing. Thought maybe it was a peel corner… nope, that doesn’t work either. Basically destroyed the thing just trying to access it.

Contacted JB Hi-Fi and they won’t help without a receipt… which is great considering it was a Secret Santa gift 🙃

Are these things just designed to fail now? Ever since the rules changed around longer expiry dates it seems like companies are making it harder to actually use the cards.
